How to write guitar tab
Each of the six lines is a string, with the high E string at the top. Write the fret number on the line of the string you play, and read from left to right. Numbers in the same column are played together, as a chord:
e|-3-----------------------| B|-0-----------------------| G|-0-----------------------| D|-0-------0-2-0-----------| A|-2---0-2-------3-2-0-----| E|-3-3---------------------|
Tips for writing your own tab
- Write the tuning and tempo at the top, so you can play it back months later.
- Use the symbols from how to read guitar tabs: h, p, b, / and ~.
- Leave space between bars, and add the chord names above the staff.
- Record a quick voice memo with the rhythm; tab does not show it.
Use the blank chord boxes to collect shapes as you learn them, or to write down the chords of a song in the order they appear.
