How to read a guitar chord chart
The chart shows the neck standing upright: vertical lines are the strings (low E on the left), horizontal lines are the frets, and the thick bar at the top is the nut. Dots show where to press, and the number is the finger: 1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 little. O above a string means play it open; X means do not play it.

Which chords to learn first
Start with E minor, E, A minor, A, D, C and G: the 8 easiest chords guide shows how to learn them in pairs. Leave the barre chords (F, B and Bm) until your open chords are clean; Fmaj7 is a good stepping stone. Stuck on one? See the hardest guitar chords and how to play them.
